Elderly Man Killed by Tiger in Jungle, Body Found After Search Operation

Tragic discovery in Ramnagar forest: Elderly man killed by tiger, family mourns loss

Ramnagar: The body of an elderly person, who went missing in the Dechauri region of the Ramnagar Forest Division, was found on Friday morning after being attacked by a tiger. The elderly man had gone to collect grass in the jungle near Kiyari village on Thursday. During the search operation, which continued until the evening, the forest department found clothes and a mobile phone at the site, leading them to suspect foul play. The following morning, the body of the elderly man, Bhuwan Chandra Belwal (60 years), was found approximately 8 kilometers inside the forest. After conducting a post-mortem at the scene, the body was handed over to his family for the final rites.

Bhuwan Chandra, a resident of Kiyari village, had gone to the Dechauri Range forest to collect fodder for his cattle on Thursday morning. When he did not return by evening, his family became worried and informed the villagers. The forest department, along with the villagers, launched a search operation, but they could not locate him by evening. The discovery of blood-stained clothes and a mobile phone raised concerns that the elderly man might have met with an accident or attack. On Friday morning, his partially eaten body was found.

After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family. The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the area, Diganth Nayak, stated that efforts are being made to identify the attacking tiger, as the region is home to several tigers. Once identified, the authorities will set up a trap to capture the tiger. In the meantime, the DFO has urged villagers living near the forest to remain cautious and refrain from entering the jungle for the next month. The operation was also overseen by SDM Rahul Shah, Tehsildar Kuldeep Pandey, and Ranger Lalit Joshi, along with the forest and administrative teams.
