Report on the rules for implementing Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand released, CM Dhami said – this is why the public voted for us
Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has made the full report of the Uniform Civil Code public on July 12. Former Chief Secretary Shatrughan Singh held a press conference regarding the Uniform Civil Code at the State Guest House Annexe in Dehradun. He said that the full report of the Uniform Civil Code has been made public on Friday. The full report of the UCC will be available to the general public from the evening. The general public can read the UCC report by visiting the UCC website https://ucc.uk.gov.in/. On the public release of the report, CM Dhami said that there was a curiosity about the UCC among the people, now its report has been made public on https://ucc.uk.gov.in. This law will be implemented soon. Certainly, after the implementation of the UCC, the complexities of many laws will end, people will be able to get justice easily.
It is worth noting that Uttarakhand is the first state in the country where UCC has been made a law. However, it has not been implemented yet. This law is likely to be implemented in the state by the month of October this year.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed happiness over the report released on UCC, he told the media, “UCC is the work of our state for which the public had elected us, I congratulate the people of Uttarakhand, certainly after the implementation of UCC, the complexities in many laws today will be simplified, people will get justice easily, there will be a similar system for everyone.”
In fact, the Dhami government of Uttarakhand had constituted a five-member committee on 27 May 2022 to prepare the draft of the UCC. The committee was constituted under the chairmanship of retired Justice Ranjana Desai. The committee had taken suggestions for UCC from 2.33 lakh people through 43 public dialogue programs and various mediums. After this, on February 2, 2024, the committee submitted the UCC report to the government.
After the report was submitted by the committee, Chief Minister Dhami tabled the draft of the UCC in the Assembly on February 7. It was passed by voice vote in the Assembly. After this, Uttarakhand became the first state in the country to implement the UCC. The bill was sent to the President to make it a law and then on March 11, President Draupadi Murmu approved the UCC Bill. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced to implement it in Uttarakhand in the month of October.
