A statement issued by the President’s Office of Malawi said that Vice President Chilima was on board the Defense Force plane. The plane took off from the capital Lilongwe at 9:17 am local time. After this, the plane suddenly disappeared from the radar. After this, President Lazarus Chakwera ordered the security forces to immediately launch a search and rescue operation to locate the plane. It is reported that Malawi President Chakwera was about to visit the Bahamas. But, he cancelled his visit after getting the news that the plane was missing. After a search operation, it was found that the plane had met with a horrific accident. In this accident, 9 other people on board the plane including Vice President Chilima also died.
