Comedy King of Bollywood “Govinda” along with Pahlaj Nihalani has brought the masala comedy of 1990s in the flavor of modern spices
1990s Bollywood was known for three things “Madhuri Mania”, “Evolution of three khans” and total domination of Comedy King “Govinda”. Govinda’s contribution to Bollywood is awesome. Right from being most expressive male dancer to High level of acting Govinda became true “hero no. 1 ” of Indian cinema. Comedy is regarded as toughest genre in Acting because it is easy to make audience crying but it is most difficult to make people laugh. Before 1990s comedy was the job of supporting actors like Late Kadar Khan Sahab, Late Amrish Puri ji, Paresh Rawal ji , Anupam Kher ji but in 1990s, Govinda became the first leading actor who made comedy as his primary genre. Amitabh, Anil Kapoor, Dharmedera were good at comedy too but their impact on audience was not extra ordinary as Govinda. It was like “If Govinda is the hero of the film then audience assumed that it must be a comedy film”.
Few of his most remembered films are Raja Babu (1994), Coolie No. 1 (1995), Hero No. 1 (1997), Deewana Mastana (1997), Dulhe Raja (1998), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998), Anari No.1 (1999) and Jodi No. 1 (2001). He received a Filmfare Best Comedian Award for Haseena Maan Jayegi and a Filmfare Special Award for Saajan Chale Sasural.
Govinda was also applauded for his comeback roles in the films like Malamal Weekly, Partner etc. But if we see the trailer of Rangeela Raja, we would find that 1990s orginial Govinda has comed back in modern avtaar. The actor who is also best known for performing a double role, will also revive that age old double role theme in the movie. The film is produced by Pahlaj Nihalani whose connection with Govinda is legendary. The film is also featuring Mishika Chaurasia in the lead role. Trailer of the movie has got good response, hoping that film bring back the era of “Masala Comedy Movies”.
