Uttarakhand, 31 Dec 2023: The transactions of these 12 firms have been monitored by the Tax Department for the past several days. The firms adjusted their GST liability by availing bogus ITC in the guise of bills of firms located outside the state.
The state tax department has taken major action against GST evasion in Uttarakhand. The Tax Department team raided 16 business establishments of 12 firms doing business of bitumen and fuel oil. The investigation found that the total of GST evasion by these firms was more than Rs 12 crore.
Let us inform you that the teams formed on the instructions of the State Tax Commissioner have taken action against the firms located in Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Roorkee, Kashipur, Haldwani and Rudrapur. The raid was conducted on Wednesday. TheBill to Ship To module was being used by these firms to hide fraudulent transactions related to their business. Scrutiny of the vehicles used in the e-way bills of these firms found that they did not cross the toll plazas located on the route to the destinations shown in the e-way bills during the dates of generation of the e-way bills.
While crossing the toll plaza of some other place during the same dates. On investigating the backdoor chain of the supplier firms of these firms, it was found that these supplier firms are either non-existent and their registration has been canceled by the department. Some of these firms were showing trading of goods which had never been purchased by them. This was being done by these firms for the last four years (2020-21 to 2023-24).
The raid continued till late Wednesday night. During this, the team confiscated records, laptops, computers and mobile phones. These firms have also deposited GST of Rs 1.13 crore on the spot during the investigation. A total of 16 teams were formed and 60 officers were included in the proceedings.
