Recently, the central government has announced an increase in the minimum fare of domestic flights by five percent following which a higher Aviation security fee (ASF) will be changed from April 2021. In the upcoming month, the ASF will be increased from Rs.162 to Rs. 200. ASF ( Aviation Security Fee) for international travellers has been increased by Rs.114.38 (from $ 5.2 to $ 12) by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). these rates will be applied to tickets from April 1, 2021. This amount is used for security arrangements at airport through out the country. Security fee has been increasing since 2019 on july 1, 2019. The ministry increased ASF for domestic flights from Rs.130 to Rs.150, international flights from $4.58 to $3.25.
Later in September 2020, the ASF was again raised from Rs. 150 to Rs. 160 and $4.85 to $5.2 for domestic and international flights respectively.
However, children below 2 years, diplomatic passport holders on duty airline crew and transit passengers taking connecting flight within 24 hours of the first flight via a single ticket are exempted from paying. The centre has allowed domestic airlines to have 80% passengers only.
