7 bodies have been recovered so far from the debris of the building in Surat, Gujarat, a 6-storey building collapsed on Saturday
Surat: A 6-storey residential building collapsed in Pal area of Surat city of Gujarat on Saturday afternoon. So far 7 people have died in this accident and at least three to four people are feared trapped in the debris. On the matter, Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Gehlot says that rescue operations are underway by SDRF and NDRF teams. According to the information received, 3-4 people are still trapped and three bodies have been recovered. One person is injured and has been rescued.
Till last night, a woman was rescued safely soon after the building collapsed while the body of a man was pulled out from the debris at night. This incident happened at around 2:45 pm in the afternoon.
According to Police Commissioner Gehlot, the rescue operation is currently underway as locals claim that three to four people may still be trapped under the debris. This building was constructed in 2016-17. People lived in about five flats here, most of whom were people working in factories in the area. When the rescue operation began, the screams of the trapped people were heard. We pulled out a woman from the debris and she was rushed to the hospital. Later, the body of a person was recovered.
In the case, the local people informed that the building had become very dilapidated and the administration had also given notice to vacate it, but still people were living in it. After this accident, the local people took some injured to the hospital. At present, the police and other teams are carrying out rescue operations. Surat District Magistrate Saurabh Pardhi is also present at the spot to monitor the rescue operation being carried out by the police, fire service, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
