Patna : New decision has come out in Bihar as in all engineering and medical colleges will reserve minimum 33.3% seats for women .
CM Nitish Kumar ordered on Wednesday, the officials of all the science and technology and the health & medical education departments to take steps and reserve 33.3% minimum seats for women at the time of admission in all medical and engineering colleges. “The proposed 33.3% quota for girls would be implemented in all engineering and medical colleges across the state from the coming academic session (2021-22). A secretary ranked IAS officer who did not wanted to be identified told TOI that with this Bihar would become the first state (in the nation) to provide such reservation.
In a high level video conference Nitish said “The reservation of minimum 33.3% seats for the fair sex will lead to further increase in the number of women in all technical institutions. It would be a unique thing. With this decision, women will be more motivated to pursue technical and higher education.”
He further informed that the engineering colleges were being opened in 38 districts of the state along with several medical colleges in the state in recent years .
“Our main aim is that the boys and girls of Bihar would not have to go outside the state to pursue the study of engineering and medical courses,” Nitish said at the meeting. He also reviewed two proposed Bills , which will be laid in the next session of state assembly regarding the setting up two new universities for engineering and medical science streams .
After the enactment of the proposed Bills , all the engineering colleges and medical colleges would be governed under ‘Bihar Engineering University ‘ and ‘Bihar University of Medical Science’ respectively. The state currently have 38 government engineering colleges while 17 under private sector . All these will be under Bihar Engineering University.
As of for medical colleges the state has nine government and six private colleges. Works are in progrees to establish 11 more . These all will come under Bihar University of Medical Sciences. Besides these two universities , Nitish government has planned to establish two more new universities for art and culture and sports sector.
