Jharkhand: Champai Soren has resigned from the post of Chief Minister in Jharkhand. Champai, who reached Raj Bhavan late on Wednesday evening, submitted his resignation to the Governor. After this, former CM Hemant Soren staked claim to form the government. This means that Hemant Soren is going to become the Chief Minister of Jharkhand once again.
After consensus among the MLAs of the JMM-led alliance, the party’s working president Hemant Soren is set to return as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand for the third time.
The leaders and MLAs of the alliance have unanimously elected Hemant Soren as the leader of the JMM Legislature Party during a meeting at the residence of Chief Minister Champai Soren in Ranchi. A party source said, ‘It has been decided in the meeting to replace Champai Soren with Hemant Soren.’
After staking claim to form government in Jharkhand, JMM working president Hemant Soren said, ‘CM (Champai Soren) has told you everything. We will tell you everything in detail. We have followed all the procedures.’
After submitting his resignation to the Governor, Jharkhand CM Champai Soren said, ‘A few days ago, I was made the Chief Minister and I got the responsibility of the state. After Hemant Soren returned, our alliance took this decision and we elected Hemant Soren as our leader. Now, I have resigned from the post of Chief Minister.’
Hemant Soren was released from jail on June 28 after nearly five months. The High Court had granted him bail in the money laundering case related to the alleged land scam. He resigned from the post of CM before his arrest on January 31.
Hemant Soren is accused of illegally acquiring 8.86 acres of land worth more than Rs 31 crore. Hemant Soren was arrested by the ED on January 31 in a money laundering case related to an alleged land scam, soon after he resigned from the post of Chief Minister.
