Akhilesh Yadav resigns from the Karhal assembly seat

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav has resigned from the post of membership in the Karhal assembly. He has also resigned from the post of Leader of Opposition in the UP Legislative Assembly. Now, by-elections will be held in the Karhal assembly. A copy of his resignation has been delivered to the assembly office.

Akhilesh Yadav has been elected from Kannauj parliamentary constituency, while in the 2022 UP assembly elections, he won the election from Karhal assembly constituency of Mainpuri district. He currently had the responsibility of Leader of Opposition in the assembly. Out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP, the SP has emerged as the third largest party in the Lok Sabha by winning 37 seats.

After Akhilesh’s resignation from the Karhal assembly seat, the discussion has started as to who will be the SP candidate in the by-election from this area. Sources claim that Tej Pratap Yadav can be fielded for the by-election from the Karhal seat. Tej Pratap Yadav is the son-in-law of RJD national president Lalu Prasad Yadav in Bihar. He is married to Lalu’s daughter, Rajlakshmi.

In the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the SP had earlier given a ticket to Tej Pratap Yadav from the Kannauj assembly seat; however, on the last day of nomination, Akhilesh Yadav himself filed a nomination from this seat. In the election, he defeated BJP candidate Subrat Pathak.
