Yamunotri Pilgrims’ heart attack

As per the sources, almost all of these devotees were above 50 years of age. Now a pilgrim from Uttar Pradesh, who had come on the Yamunotri pilgrimage, died in Jankichatti. The death toll due to heart attack during the pilgrimage to Dham has reached 17. There is a lack of oxygen in high-altitude areas during hiking. Physical stress also increases suddenly due to walking.

In such a situation, the risk of heart attack increases in chronic heart patients, high blood pressure, diabetes, smokers, patients suffering from serious diseases, and people above 60 years of age. In such a situation, heart disease patients should avoid climbing mountains and travel should be postponed immediately on symptoms like shortness of breath and chest pain while walking some distance. On the other hand, AIIMS Rishikesh has suggested strictly implementing the system of filling out the screening form to reduce the deaths due to heart attacks during the Chardham Yatra. Dr. Abhimanyu Nigam, Department of Cardiology, AIIMS, says that by answering 10 questions in the screening form and some primary tests, the health and risk of the traveler can be detected, which can prevent heart patients from traveling.
