Ramnagar, Uttarakhand – New efforts are made to increase the population of tigers in India. The government is taking such initiatives seriously. This time a Tigress is left in the forest of Motichur range with GPS collar.

The tigress is brought from Corbett Park and has been released into the forest in Motichur range. The tigress will be monitored through GPS collar. For this, an eight-member team of the park administration has been formed. Now the number of tigers in the range forest has increased to four.
On Friday, the tigress was released from the tiger enclosure into the forest in the presence of Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal, Park Director Saket Badola and other officials in the Motichur range. Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal along with officials reached the tiger enclosure located at Koyalpura in Motichur range of Rajaji Tiger Reserve at around 12 noon. From the scaffold he watched the tiger’s movements. After which the team of forest workers opened both the gates of the enclosure to release the tigress into the forest. After about two hours the tigress went towards the forest.
Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal said that the tiger translocate will increase the number of tourists in Rajaji. Due to which revenue will increase. Park Director Saket Badola said that a GPS collar has been fitted around the neck of the tiger. Every movement of the tigress can be monitored through satellite GPS and camera traps. A team of eight members has also been formed to monitor the tiger. Chief Forest Conservator Anup Malik and other officials were present on this occasion.
When were the tigers tranquilized?
To increase the population of tigers in Rajaji Tiger Reserve, tigers from Corbett Park are being tranquilized and released in Motichur range. A female tiger was released on 16 May 2020, a male tiger on 9 January 2021, and a female tiger on 16 May 2023. On March 7, 2024, a female tiger from the Dhela range of Corbett Tiger Reserve was tranquilized and brought to the enclosure of the range, which was released in the forest today. Now the number of tigers in Rajaji Tiger Reserve has increased to four. Which includes one male and three female tigers

Translocation of tigers to Motichur range of Rajaji Tiger Reserve is a big achievement for the park officials. The park officials and employees are excited by this. Except Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal and top officials, no one was allowed to reach the tiger enclosure. Every activity of releasing the tiger in the forest was being heard on the wireless system. As soon as the forest workers got information about the tiger’s safe entry into the forest. The forest personnel posted at the range office congratulated each other.
