Udham Singh Nagar: Sanjay Van Chetna Kendra to Undergo Beautification for Tourists

Rudrapur: Efforts are underway to transform the Sanjay Van Chetna Kendra, nestled in the Tanda range of the Terai Central Forest Division, Rudrapur, into an enchanting tourist destination, brimming with natural beauty. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is in progress, funded with Rs 20 lakh from the district scheme, while an additional budget of Rs 56 lakh has been requested from the Government of India for safeguarding the Sanjay Forest area.

The Sanjay Van Chetna Kendra, situated on the Rudrapur-Haldwani Road, has long been a peaceful retreat for tourists. However, due to budget constraints in recent years, the condition of the Sanjay Forest deteriorated. Minister of State for Defense, Ajay Bhatt, initiated efforts to rejuvenate Sanjay Van and included it in a dream project. Consequently, Rs 20 lakh was allocated from the District Plan last year, resulting in the park’s improvement through cleaning, painting, and repairing of facilities, including swings and benches. Additionally, selfie points were introduced, attracting more tourists.

The Forest Department is now dedicated to enhancing Sanjay Forest, which spans approximately one and a half kilometers, to offer an even more enticing tourist experience. This development aims to encourage tourists en route to Nainital and other destinations to explore Sanjay Van.

DFO Himanshu Bagri mentioned that the DPR is being developed using the Rs 20 lakh approved from the district plan, though specific activities and amenities for Sanjay Van are yet to be decided. Furthermore, a request for Rs 56 lakh has been made to the Government of India. In the event of budget approval, improved fencing will be installed around Sanjay Van, addressing concerns related to elephant and other wildlife movements. This may also extend the closing hours, which currently stand at 9 AM to 5 PM.
