The Environment Society of India strongly opposed the use of Plastic on World Earth Day 2024

Chandigarh – Today is the World Earth Day and many NGOs, schools, Colleges and other institutions are organizing various events like summits, conclave etc. with whole heartedness to discuss the solutions that is hampering our special planet. One such organization the Environment Society of India did something special.

The Environment Society of India Chandigarh, in collaboration with Adhivakta Parishad, commemorated World Earth Day 2024 on April 21st at Karuna Sadan, Sector 11-B, Chandigarh. The focal theme of the event was “Planet vs Plastic.”

Mr. N.K Jhingan, Secretary of The Environment Society of India, warmly welcomed all attendees and elucidated the society’s initiatives and responsibilities towards environmental welfare. Dr. R.K Chauhan, Joint Director of the Environment and Climate Change Department, Haryana, and Member Secretary of SEAC Haryana graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Er. Hemraj Satija, Vice President of The Environment Society of India, shed light on carbon footprint reduction and the significance of sustainability practices. Mr. Ajay Jagga, Advocate Standing Council of Chandigarh Administration, articulated the environmental implications of plastic usage, citing relevant articles from the Indian Constitution.

Previously, an online event titled “Ideas to Stop Plastic Pollution” was organized by ESI, attracting participation from over a hundred schools in the tricity area. Winners of this competition were honored at the World Earth Day celebration.

Mr Ajay Jagga advocate standing council Chandigarh administration, spoke about the environment, constitution and damages for using plastic. He highlighted some articles of constitution of India related to protection and concern of environment.

Mr. Karan Bhardwaj, Advocate, delved into the issues concerning the right to life and a clean environment.
Dr. Arun Bansal, Administrator of Social Substance at Punjab University Chandigarh, provided guidance on the segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials at the household level. Mr. R.D Bava, President of Adhivakta Parishad Chandigarh concluded the proceedings with a vote of thanks, representing both organizing bodies.

Mrs. Preeti Kapany, Joint Secretary, adeptly hosted the event and introduced the esteemed speakers. Notable members in attendance included Mr. Ravinder Nath, Treasurer of ESI, along with Mrs. Shashi Jhingan, Mrs. Sudha, Dr. Basundhara, Mrs. Anita Mahajan, Mr. R.K Gupta, Mr. Ajay Singla, Mr. Rohan (Secretary, Youth Wing of ESI), Editor at Humari Baat Snehil (President, Youth Wing of ESI) and Bhuvan (VP, Youth Wing).

The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks from Advocate R.D Bawa, President of Adhivakta Parishad Chandigarh, followed by a communal lunch. The Environment Society of India emphasized the urgent need to combat plastic pollution, urging everyone to become environmental warriors and protect our planet Earth.
