Ranchi: The ED has detained Jharkhand’s Rural Development Minister and senior Congress politician, Alamgir. Since this morning, the minister has been questioned at the ED headquarters in Ranchi. According to reports, Alamgir was detained after being questioned for more than ten hours. The ED has previously arrested the minister’s personal secretary, Sanjeev Lal, and his servant, Jahangir Alam. Recently, crores of rupees in cash were confiscated from Jahangir Alam’s home. The minister was summoned for questioning in this instance.

Previously, Jharkhand minister and Congress leader Alamgir Alam appeared before the ED on Tuesday for interrogation in the money laundering case. ED officers questioned him for more than nine hours. The ED allowed State Rural Development Minister Alam to return home last night, but he was summoned again today for questioning. Let us tell you that last week, the ED arrested Alamgir Alam’s personal secretary and State Administrative Service official Sanjeev Kumar Lal (52) and domestic help Jahangir Alam (42) after seizing over Rs 35 crore in cash from his residence. Several counting machines were used to count the unaccounted cash. Aside from that, some jewelry was seized from Jahangir Alam’s flat.

The money laundering probe is linked to alleged anomalies within the state’s rural development agency. Alamgir Alam, a 70-year-old Congress activist, is Jharkhand’s rural development minister and represents Pakur in the state assembly. The raid was part of an ongoing investigation into the money laundering case against Virendra K. Ram, the former chief engineer of the Jharkhand Rural Development Department, who was arrested last year. Following this, the scope of the probe expanded.
