Over 1,500 people, including pilgrims, and nearly 400-500 vehicles remained stranded on the road throughout Thursday as a massive landslide blocked the Badrinath highway in Chamoli district.

313 routes across the state are closed due to debris. Around 1,500 pilgrims and locals are stranded on the Badrinath Highway as it is blocked at several places. On the other hand, the Karnprayag-Ranikhet highway has been closed due to road collapse.
Roads have been closed at many places due to debris coming after rains in the state. Debris has also come in the Rudraprayag-Gaurikund National Highway. Efforts are being made by the department to open the road. 313 routes have been closed across the state. In Tehri, several roads including Laxmoli Hisariakhal Jamnikhal, Tungi Bhatkot Motor Marg and Gaumukh Dome Motor Marg have been hit by debris.

Road sunken in Kalimati near Gairsain
The Karnprayag-Ranikhet highway has been closed due to road collapse. Here about 15 meters of the road has sunk due to landslide under the road. Due to which the movement of vehicles going towards Karnaprayag and Gairsain has come to a standstill. Many vehicles are stranded on both sides of the highway. The executive body has been informed on behalf of the Chamoli police and the local people. NH’s AE Ankit Sagwan said that JE has been sent on the spot to inspect the road in Kalimati.(HB)
