Lucknow : State Election Commission (SEC) in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday gave a notification in which they mentioned about elections for Panchayati Raj Department to choose the Chief of Zila Panchayat to be done between June 15 to July 3.

From Governor’s side Manoj Singh who is Additional chief secretary (Panchayati Raj) gave a notification in which it was mentioned about the elections for Zila Panchayat Chief. However, the announcement no longer indicates elections for 826 kshetra panchayats. Sources said the branch may quickly seek the advice of panchayati raj’s board of directors earlier than announced.

Presidents of Zila panchayat for 75 districts will be elected by 3,050 members in different districts. Jaunpur has a maximum of 83 rooms, followed by Sitapur and Lakhimpur Kheri with 79 and 72 rooms respectively. Gorakhpur, the homeland of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has 68 wards.

SEC sources confirmed that an official announcement for the zila panchayat polls will be published on Tuesday, after which observers will be appointed.
The presidential elections of zila panchayat have become a matter of prestige for all political parties, especially BJP has decided to appoint its officials to zila panchayat. The BJP faces a tough challenge from the opposition, mainly the Samajwadi party.

The election has also grown in importance for the BJP as it seeks to maximize its footprint in the state’s rural areas to join regional parties, the SP and BSP, ahead of the national elections meeting of the next year.
The issue is said to have been at the heart of the lively activities in the BJP camp during recent visits by the party’s national secretary (organization), BL Santhosh, and the country’s vice president, Radha Mohan Singh. 4,444 BJP sources said the party had reopened talks with independent candidates, who won a significant number of constituencies. Their support for candidates backed by different parties will be significant in the zila panchayat elections.
