For the UP elections, Janata Dal United (JDU) on Tuesday released the list of candidates for 20 seats out of 26. The most shocking name among them was that of Ramesh Chandra Upadhyay. Ramesh Chandra is an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case and is currently out on bail. He was given ticket from Bairiya Vidhan Sabha of Ballia. However, his name was removed from the list after 10 minutes for fear of controversy. Ramesh Chandra Upadhyay had joined JDU in 2020. He was also made the state convener of the Ex-Servicemen Cell of Uttar Pradesh. He got bail in 2017 from the High Court. On giving ticket to Ramesh Chandra, Congress said that JD(U) has shown its deep allegiance to the Sangh Parivar and terrorism by doing so.
