Rudrapur, 17 March 2024: With the announcement of Lok Sabha elections, the DM has imposed Section 144 in the district for two months. Said that the counting of votes is to take place on June 4. Meanwhile, there are also festivals of Holi, Chaitra Navratri and Eid. Since the district is adjacent to the border of UP, anti-social elements can try to disrupt the election process, disturb communal harmony and polarize by spreading religious frenzy.

DM Udayraj Singh said in the order that various political parties, organizations, candidates, individuals may try to give inducements to influence the elections. For this reason, prohibitory orders are imposed in the district under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure with immediate effect. During this period, no more than five or more people will gather anywhere.

This order will not be applicable to police, employees on duty, religious places, students in schools, college institutions, wedding processions, funeral processions, employees working in industrial units, people gathered at commercial establishments. The DM said that the sentiments of people of any religion, sect, caste or social class should not be hurt. Nor should temples, mosques, churches and gurudwaras be used in election campaigning. Election campaigning will not take place within the restricted limits of the polling station. If any attempt is made to capture polling stations or stop voting, action will be taken.

No candidate will carry effigies of other candidates or his supporters, burn them in public places or carry out other such protests. There will be no use of loudspeakers, equipment, road shows, processions, public meetings and vehicle rallies etc. without permission. No person will carry more than Rs 50 thousand. Action will be taken against violators under section 188 of IPC.
