After the rebellion, Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa is looking for an opportunity to increase his closeness with Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. On Tuesday, he said that an amount of 45 crore rupees has been released to the sugarcane farmers towards the government cooperative mills. After this, the remaining amount of 8.15 crores has to be paid by the Central Government. He said that the promise made by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to sugarcane farmers in the first week of September has been fulfilled by the Punjab government.
Randhawa said that a provision of 300 crores has been made in the budget of 2021-22 for the full payment of sugarcane farmers. A total of Rs 486.24 crore has been paid by the 9 cooperative sugar mills of the state for the year 2019-20. Out of Rs 472.10 crore made for 2020-21, 463.95 crore has been given. The Central Government is being contacted in this regard.
Randhawa, Sidhu’s best friend, is now on the backfoot after the rebellion
Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has been close to Punjab Congress chief Navjot Sidhu. He played a big role in making Sidhu the Congress President. With full activeness, he made Sidhu meet with Congress leaders. After this, Randhawa was also prominent among the ministers who raised the flag of rebellion to remove Captain Amarinder Singh from the chair of CM. However, political experts believe that Randhawa is on the back foot after the high command suppressed the rebellion. Now he is trying to resolve the differences by pleasing the Captain or meeting him on some pretext or the other.
