Devprayag’s Confluence of Rivers

As told above the confluence of two rivers “Alaknanda” and “Bhagirathi” is the first reason that makes the aura and environment of Devprayag “pious” and “pleasant”. The positivity of the place makes everyone free from all tensions and anxiety. Hydrology considers Alkananda as the main source of the river Ganga while mythology considers Bhagirathi as a major source. There are four other Pryags which are considered a confluence of four other small tributaries of Alaknanda. The first one is Vishnuprayag, where the Dhauliganga River meets the Alaknanda. Second is Nandaprayag, where the Nandakini River meets it and other two are Karnaprayag and Rudraprayag, where it is met by the Pindar River and Mandakini River respectively.

Raghunath Ji Temple at Devprayag

3 Godly peaks, namely Giddhanchal Peak, Dashrathanchal Peak, and Narsinghancal Peak cover the holy place “Devprayag. Raghunath Ji temple is situated at the bottom of Giddhanchal Peak. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama. As per sources, it is the place of Lord Rama’s footprints and is also known as “Ram Kunda”.

The holy place comprises many Lord Shiva temples like Tondeshwar Mahadev, Dhaneshwar Mahadev temple, and Danda Nagaraja (Lord of Snakes) temple. These temples are located just near the “Sangam”.

Maa Bhuvneshwari Temple

The destination is also the home of the divine Mother. Near Devprayag there is a temple dedicated to Adishakti Mahavidya Sidh Bhuvaneshwari Temple. It is a place where Bhagwati Parvati waited for Lord Shiva after Shiva drank “Halahal” poison. It is believed that Goddess Tara helped Lord Shiva in stopping the poison intoxication.
