PM MODI ON MANIPUR INCIDENT

The incident happened on May 4 in Kangpokpi district, some 35 km from state capital Imphal, according a statement by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF). The police, however, said the incident happened in another district, though the first information report (FIR) was filed in Kangpokpi.

The government is likely to act against Twitter over the circulation of videos that “could lead to problems in law and order”, which are not permitted under law, sources said. An order initiating action against the Elon Musk-owned social media platform for non-compliance was issued last night, sources said, adding that the IT ministry is working across platforms to ensure that the video wasn’t circulated further.

The video drew wide condemnation across political parties and Union minister Smriti Irani said she spoke to chief minister N Biren Singh after seeing the inhumane, shocking video. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh, Sachin Pilot, Shiv Sena (Udhhav) leaders Aaditya Thackeray, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Trinamool leaders Mahua Moitra, Saket Gokhale strongly condemned the video seeking PM Modi’s statement on Manipur which has been witnessing violence since May 3.

Before the commencement of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, PM Narendra Modi says, “My heart is filled with pain and anger. The incident from Manipur that has come before us is shameful for any civilised society. I urge all the CMs to further strengthen law & order in their states – especially for the security of women and take the strongest measures. Be it any incident in Rajasthan or Chhattisgarh of Manipur or any corner of the country – rise above politics…”

“What has happened to daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven, guilty will not be spared”(HB)
